Beginning July 30, 1982 (March 1984 in Canada and Brazil), serial numbers for Delta / Rockwell machines changed to an eight digit number. The first three of these digits were a date code, the remaining 5 made up the individual serial number for the machine. Machine Serial Number Any documentation that can date the machine Also, we strongly encourage you to also submit a Photo Index entry on machines submitted to the Registry. You can got to OWWM ( old wood working machines ) and they have all the info on delta Rockwell serial numbers and you can figure out the date.

Rockwell serial number chart...
I posted the following in the '11X36 Rockwell' thread, but that thread may have already run its course. Its a bit divergent from the original thread, so I thought I'd repost to a new one.
I just remembered something I saw when I looked at the lathe and was wondering if there is any significance. The thread table plate above the left gear selector did NOT read A-B-C-D-E as the Army Rockwell Manual indicates. Instead it reads D-E-L-T-A
According to Tony's site, Delta bought Rockwell lathes in 1984. So, either the thread table has been replaced by a Delta plate or if original, suggests that this lathe is newer than '84.
Another concern is how do I know this is an 11' vs. the 10'? Since it was advertised as an 11X36 and is obviously NOT 36' between centers, isn't it possible that it isn't an 11' swing either? I have the serial number. Is there a serial number chart like the one I've seen for Bridgeport that might shed some light on the model and age? I would be GREATLY disappointed if I got this machine home and discovered that it is a 10x24 and I paid for an 11X36 (even though it would seem that it is only a 24' center to center)
