Although they are known for their mountain bikes, Gary Fisher also offers a large selection of hybrid bikes. These two types of bikes have distinct differences.

  • Hybrid bike: A hybrid bike is designed to be a combination of a mountain bike and a racing bike. These models are known for their light frames, flexible suspensions, and touring handlebars, which allow for more upright and relaxed riding. Because of its position as a hybrid bike, this type of cycle can be used on the road for city riding or off-road, such as along mountain trails or in backyards.
  • Mountain bike: This company's mountain bikes are meant primarily for off-road cycling and are designed with sturdy, strong frames and cross-wise handlebars. These assist with the resistance bikers might face when riding off-road.

How do you choose a frame size for Fisher bicycles?

Choosing a correctly sized bicycle is very important when purchasing a new one. You can determine what size bicycle is right for you by having your measurements taken. You need to measure your leg inseam, torso length, and arm length. With these numbers, you'll be more prepared for selecting a new cycle. Most bicycles range anywhere from 11 to 29 inches in height. Generally, the taller you are, the bigger the frame you'll want to select. Personal riding preference is also important to consider and can affect the frame size you'll be most comfortable with as you ride.

Gary Fisher Frame Numbers

Your bike looks like my 1996 Aquila which I've owned since new back in '96 when the GaryFisher marketing pamphlets said it was the first year of the Genesis frame which was made for better climbing. Supposedly the first run of '96 Aquilas got tripple-butted frames (including mine), then later in the year it switched to double-butted.
Here's the bikepedia.com entry for it:
http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...uila&Type=bike
Mine has been a great bike for the 12 years I've owned it, first it was a great mountain bike with the addition of the suspension fork, then it was my commuter bike with the addition of the rack, then it spent 4 years outside in the rain under a tarp when I had no space in the garage to store it or time to ride it (it survived fine with no rust) and recently it was washed and I added a riser stem and handlebar to convert it into a hybrid which I've been using to get exercise and pull my 4 year old and 2 year old on a tag-along-bike and Burley trailer...
It's been a truly great bike, and I plan to keep it for many more years.
I'll see if I can attach a picture of the bike and frame numbers so you can see if it looks the same as yours.
